CampFire – An Outdoor Dance Festival at The Arts House
Registration for Competition, Workshop and Marathon Now Open!
Singapore, 1 May 2009 – In conjunction with the upcoming Singapore River Festival 2009 in June, ECNAD and The Arts House will be presenting CampFire, a dance festival for the massescelebrating the vibrancy of dance and life on 19 and 20 June 2009 at The Arts House. A myriad of dance-related activities ranging from an outdoor dance performance, dance photography competition, dance workshop and a four-hour dance marathon with a finale party are lined up to engage dancers and non-dancers from all walks of life together through the arts, with free admission for all events.
Premiering on the first night on 19 June, audiences will be treated to ECNAD's signature outdoor dance programme-and-performance CampFire Dance conceptualised and choreographed by visionary award-winning Co-Artistic Director Lim Chin Huat. This spectacular visual feast created especially for the festival features sumptuous costumes and lifelike choreography that is light-hearted and aesthetic by turns to whet the appetite.
As the second day of the festival unfolds, budding and professional photographers can delve into the dynamic world of dance photography in the Snap the Dancers photography competition. The first 150 participants to show up on the day will gain exclusive access into The Arts House to capture ECNAD dancers in motion as they move from one historic room to another. The remaining participants however, can still capture the dancers as they perform outdoors against the iconic facade of the Old Parliament House. With established local artists and photographers forming the panel of judges, the best pictures will stand to win attractive prizes and be exhibited at The Arts House Gallery from 26 June to 5 July 2009.
Aspiring dancers can also take part in the playful Dance Noisily workshop conducted by the Co-Artistic Director of ECNAD, Tan How Choon who is lauded for his experimentalism and sense of adventure. This movement and sound exploration workshop for teenagers and adults requires no prior dance experience as participants get in touch with their bodies and the sounds they can make.
CampFire culminates with the All Can Dance marathon that opens the stage to dance enthusiasts of any age and background from the community who are keen to perform their own short choreographed piece of any style or genre. Audiences are invited to picnic on the lawn as they watch the dance talent of Singapore on display and join in the finale party of the dance marathon during the last half-hour.
Says Mr Lim Chin Huat, Co-Artistic Director of ECNAD: "CampFire is an exciting collaboration between The Arts House and ECNAD with a series of dance-related programmes, specially designed for everyone in Singapore and tourists who happened to be here during Singapore River Festival this year.
