Singapore, 20 Oct 2005 – Due to overwhelming response during the 15th European Union Film Festival (2005) presented by The European Union Cultural Committee & Singapore Film Society, The French Embassy, Singapore, has partnered The Arts House to present additional four screenings of PLAYTIME!
With his signature style, Jacques Tati's movies are almost immediately identifiable, often hinting at the theme of his next feature film. The ending of MON ONCLE paves the way for the technology-minded PLAYTIME, and the balletic representation of cars in PLAYTIME leads to his next film, TRAFFIC. In almost all of Tati's films, his main character is the eccentric Monsieur Hulot, a conservative, goofy yet well-meaning man who seems to be doomed to do everything wrong in the modern world.
In PLAYTIME, Monsieur Hulot has to contact an American official in Paris, but he gets lost in the maze of a modern architecture filled with the latest technical gadgets. Caught in the tourist invasion, Hulot roams around a high-tech Paris, causing chaos in his usual manner.
PLAYTIME is maybe Tati's most influential work ever, cutting edge, witty and utterly cinematic.
A feast for the ears and the eyes, it will be presented in a beautifully restored print, premiered in Cannes Film Festival 2003 and more recently a sell-out success at the 15th European Union Film Festival (2005) in Singapore.
