Literary Pioneer Exhibition: P Krishnan, Rama Kannabiran, Singai Ma Ilangkannan சிங்கப்பூர் எழுத்தாளர் விழா இலக்கிய முன்னோடிகளின் கண்காட்சி : பி. கிருஷ்ணன், சிங்கை மா. இளங்கண்ணன், இராம. கண்ணபிரான் (Singapore Writers' Festival 2020)

Catch a glimpse into the lives of Singapore’s Indian community as portrayed by three seminal Tamil writers whose prolific careers span short stories, novels, poetry, and radio. From the Second World War to Singapore’s development in the 60s to 80s, uncover the anxieties and aspirations they had through the years.

Curated by Ramesh Krishnan, Lim Shu Min and Laura Miotto with research and writing by Harini V, Ashwini Selvaraj and Bharathi Moorthiappan, this digital exhibition is commissioned by the Singapore Writers Festival as part of the festival's annual signature Literary Pioneer Exhibition.

மூன்று மாபெரும் தமிழிலக்கிய ஆளுமைகள் தங்கள் படைப்புகளிகளின் வழி உருவாக்கிய சிங்கப்பூர் இந்திய வாழ்க்கைச் சித்தரிப்புகளை முன்வைக்கும் கண்காட்சி இது. இரண்டாம் உலகப் போர், சிங்கப்பூர் தனிநாட்டின் தொடக்கம் முதல் எண்பதுகள் வரையிலான வளர்ச்சி போன்றவற்றைக் களமாகக் கொண்டு, மக்களின் அச்சங்களையும் பேராவல்களையும் சிறுகதை, புதினம், வானொலி, கவிதை எனப் பல தளங்களில், இந்த முன்னோடி எழுத்தாளர்கள் பதிவு செய்துள்ளனர்.

இந்த மின்னிலக்கக் கண்காட்சி, ரமேஷ் கிருஷ்ணன், லிம் ஷூ மின், லோரா மியோட்டோ வடிவமைப்பிலும் ஹரிணி வீ, அஸ்வினி செல்வராஜ், பாரதி மூர்த்தியப்பன் ஆகியோரின் ஆய்வு மற்றும் எழுத்திலும் உருவாகியுள்ளது. சிங்கப்பூர் எழுத்தாளர் விழா நியமிக்க, ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் விழாவின் பகுதியாக இலக்கிய முன்னோடிக் கண்காட்சி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்படுகிறது.

P. Krishnan

P. Krishnan, is a prolific writer, poet, playwright, and radio producer-presenter, who wrote under the pseudonym “Puthumaithasan". A founding member of the Singapore Tamil Writers Association, he was a writer known for his works that depict the aspirations, lifestyles and experiences of the Tamil community in Singapore. He also enjoyed a distinguished career working for Radio and Television of Singapore. He has received many prestigious awards, both local and international, in recognition of his contribution to Tamil literature and Tamil language, including the Cultural Medallion in 2008.

Rama Kannabiran

Rama Kannabiran is Singapore's foremost Tamil language short-story writer and novelist and was instrumental in putting the language on the island's literary map. His notable worksinclude Irupathainthu Aandukal (Twenty-Five Years, 1980), Peedam (Seat Power, 1988) and Gypsies (2007). He has received the Thamizhavel award, the South East Asia Writers Award, and the Cultural Medallion.

Singai Ma Ilangkannan

M. Balakrishnan, also known by his pen name Ma Ilangkannan, is a well-respected author of Tamil-language fiction in Singapore. He has published several novels and short story collections that have depicted the lives of the Tamil migrant working class in Singapore through the decades. Among the awards he has received are the S.E.A. Write Award (1982), the Thamizhavel Award (Gold) (1999), and the Singapore Literature Prize (2004). In 2005, Balakrishnan received the Cultural Medallion for his contributions to literature in Singapore.
